The process for drying live edge slabs begins with responsibly sourced raw timber. We collect logs from trees felled due to age, storm damage, or necessary land management, prioritising sustainability and responsible forestry. Each log is carefully milled and prepared before entering our onsite kiln.

Kiln drying is a crucial step in preparing timber for interior use. It reduces the moisture content of the wood to safe, workable levels, typically around 10–12%, minimising the risk of warping, cracking, or movement once the slab is in use. This process also helps prevent pest infestations and improves the durability of the finished piece.

• Start by sealing the ends of each slab to slow down moisture loss and prevent end-splitting.
• Stack your slabs horizontally with spacers (known as ‘stickers’) between each one, allowing air to circulate.
• Keep the stack raised off the ground and protect it from direct sunlight and rain using a breathable cover or shelter.
• It is essential to monitor the moisture content regularly with a moisture meter until the wood reaches suitable levels for your project.
