Live edge oak slabs are known for their strength and tight wood grain.
We stock a great choice of live edge oak slabs, perfect for carving, turning, making furniture, flooring, cabinetry and architectural millwork. Oak is a great choice for both traditional and contemporary projects.
Oak wood is heavy, hard, and strong and comes in shades of medium to light-brown, and has a fine texture with straight and subtle grain patterns. As oak wood is traditionally used to make barrels, this makes it a great choice for projects that require a high level of durability and resistance to liquid, such as outdoor furniture.

From beautiful oak tree trunks to bespoke furniture
Waney edge oak is timber that has been sawn with the natural edge of the tree intact. The result of this felling method is rustic and characterful slabs of wood, with distinctive irregular edges. The term “waney” is derived from the Old English word “wænan,” meaning to wane or diminish, and it signifies the natural tapering of the tree’s trunk.
A burr oak slab of wood is typically cut from a burr on an oak tree. A burr is an abnormal growth on a tree, often as a result of some form of stress, injury or infection. It is characterised by a swirling, knotted grain pattern that is highly prized for its unique appearance, perfect for woodworking and decorative applications. Burr oak slabs can also be used to create distinctive and eye-catching tabletops and bars or kitchen countertops.
Because no two sections are the same, live-edge oak slabs add character and uniqueness to each piece. For a full list of the characteristics of oak wood and its uses, please refer to our Timber Species Guide. Also available as a downloadable PDF.Timber Species Guide
