Unique vintage oak with an abundance of patina

Although we are best known for our kiln dried live edge timber, we also stock some really special pieces of vintage oak. Each piece is carefully sourced by our team and is completely unique, with its own story and patina, providing a unique aged appearance that cannot be replicated with newly milled wood.

Oak wood is dense, durable and strong and comes in shades that range from light to medium brown. It features irregular patterns and weathered surfaces, making it both beautiful and practical.

Characteristics of vintage oak

  • Rich patina – over time, oak develops a deep, warm patina due to natural ageing, exposure to light and oxidation. This adds a sense of history and authenticity to any project.
  • Durability – oak is naturally dense, resistant to wear and can last for centuries, making it ideal for functional and decorative uses.
  • Grain and texture – vintage oak often displays a prominent grain pattern and may include knots, or cracks which enhance its rustic charm.

Best uses for vintage oak

  • Gnarled pieces of old oak make stunning lamp bases.
  • Vintage oak is perfect for crafting bespoke glass coffee table bases.
  • Smaller pieces of oak can be used for making picture or mirror frames.
  • Chunks of oak wood left in their raw state make eye-catching centrepieces.
