Sycamore live edge slabs from Elephant Timber

Our sycamore live edge slabs are fine textured wood with subtle grain patterns in light to medium-brown. Sycamore is a hardwood, which makes it ideal for both traditional and contemporary projects. It will withstand heavy use and is naturally resistance to decay.

Qualities of sycamore wood

Sycamore live edge wood has a distinctive white and light-brown colour contrast; it is a great choice for woodworking projects that require a high level of visual interest. Sycamore wood is relatively easy to work, with both hand and machine tools, as it cuts, planes, and sands well. All of our sycamore live edge slabs are kiln-dried to ensure stability and to reduce the risk of warping, cracking or splitting.

Uses for sycamore wood

We offer a wide range of thicknesses and widths of sycamore live edge to suit your needs. Our sycamore live edge slabs are suitable for indoor applications such as furniture, cabinetry, flooring, millwork and panelling, but are not suitable for outdoor use without proper protection. Due to its attractive appearance, workability and stability, sycamore wood is used for carving, turning and creating decorative items.

Customer Projects

Spalted sycamore wood

Spalted sycamore wood has undergone a process whereby fungi introduce unique colours and patterns into the wood, giving a visually striking appearance. Due to its contrasting colours and patterns created by the spalting process, it is perfect for making beautiful decorative items such as bowls, vases and carved boxes. The unique colours and patterns can be incorporated into sculptures, wall art, musical instruments and jewellery.

Because of its eye-catching details and character, spalted sycamore wood is ideal for creating one-of-a-kind furniture pieces, such as tabletops, cabinet doors, and drawer fronts.

Its distinctive appearance can add a touch of elegance and sophistication to handmade gifts, including picture frames, cutting boards, coasters, and other small items.
